Every year, the Nordstrom Sale comes around and I see influencers, friends, and family sharing all the goodies they are buying at a “steal!” I always wonder though… is it really a “steal” if you didn’t need it.
Perhaps you found an awesome deal at the Nordstrom Sale and had to have it. I wonder thought, when you got home were you able to make two to three new outfits with the item? Do you wear it for two or more seasons? I ask because, typically, when you purchase an item that’s on sale it’s more about the “win” of getting it at such a good price. I encourage my clients to purchase items they need instead of items that are a great deal. Sometimes magic happens and you get both at the same time.
If you are not sure what items to buy at the Nordstrom Sale think about your clothes and outfits as a capsule wardrobe. It can be as simple as three tops, three bottoms, and three layering pieces. What are your go to items within those categories and do you need more or a refresh of a few pieces.
If you are not sure where to start, think about what you wear as bottoms every day. Do you tend to grab a pair of jeans, a skirts, slacks, shorts, or some combination? Maybe you could use one or two new pieces that fit better so feel more confident and put together. Those items would be great pieces to add to your wardrobe and buy at the Nordstrom sale.
The next category you want to search for at the Nordstrom Sale is tops. Think about what you have, what fits, and what you actually love to wear. Ask yourself if you could use one or two new options. You could look for more of what you have or try something new. There are a plethora of options like a new button down, a sleeveless shell, maybe a long sleeve blouse, a sweater or a short sleeve top in a bold color or print.
Next on the list of what to buy at the Nordstrom Sale is a layering piece which can be a cardigan, blazer, field or utility jacket, or a sweater blazer. The options are endless and there is something to fit every style. If you prefer dresses the Nordstrom Sale has plenty of options in a variety of styles, sizes, and colors. Before you purchase though ask yourself if the dress will lend itself to layering with a sweater or blazer to give you variety when the seasons change.
Last, but not least, be sure to search for shoes and accessories at the Nordstrom Sale. While it may be blazing hot right now, soon enough, fall and winter are around the corner and those boots you had your eye on will be on repeat.
If you don’t have a budget now is a good time to decide what it should be. Basic pieces, like a pair slacks, as well as fun accessories and shoes, will help you mix and match and make more of the pieces you already own. If you’re not sure what size you are with that particular brand purchase the size you think you are plus one size up or down. Not every brand uses the same measurements for sizing and some companies run big and/or small.
